This is a course on the design of organized markets, such as auctions and related matching and trading processes. The focus is on efficient organization and incentives via procedural and settlement rules, and relevant aspects of political economy. Portions are devoted to privatization and allocation of public resources, deregulation and restructuring of industrial infrastructure, and rationalization of industrial capacity and pricing - each examined theoretically and via a recent implementation. In this half-quarter course, some topics are selected based on student interests. Skills in economic analysis and rudimentary game theory are essential.
